Descent to the Moon
Start readingApollo was now split into Columbia and the Lunar Module Eagle. Mike Collins remained in lunar orbit in Columbia, whilst Eagle with Aldrin and Armstrong descended to the lunar surface. Unexpected speed and program alarms close to the surface caused concern, but these were allayed by quick decision making on the ground by Steve Bales and Jack Garman. The Eagle landed successfully.
